Guided Fly Fishing Trips

Guided Fly Fishing Trout Trips

We are located in the Trout Capital of Georgia – Fannin County.

The Toccoa River, just outside of Downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia can be divided in to two sections; the upper Toccoa river begins in mountains of the scenic Chattahoochee National Forest and eventually flows into Blue Ridge Lake. This portion of the river is seasonally stocked and has a state designated, catch and release and artificial only “Delayed Harvest” section through the Fall, Winter, and Spring.

The Lower Toccoa River, or the “Tailwater” Section, flows out of the bottom of Blue Ridge Dam and maintains cool water year-round. We offer both float and wade trips, fly fishing for Brown and Rainbow Trout on the Toccoa River and some of its tributaries.

Public Access Wade Trips (on foot, in the water) will take place on one of the access points on the Toccoa Tailwater. These trips are great for beginner fly anglers for trout or for those looking to learn the area, but we recommend avoiding these trips on busy weekends, as we may be limited by the size of the access and by the number of other people fishing! We can accommodate up to 4 anglers per access point.

Private Access Wade trips are done on one of four different streams, each venue having its own character. These streams offer solitude, larger than average rainbow and brown trout, and the beautiful mountain scenery that many expect when they come to Blue Ridge. We love these trips for both the beginner and advanced angler – newcomers to the sport will find these trips to be advantageous, as the guide can spend more time with you and truly get you dialed. The advanced angler will enjoy the technical challenge that trophy trout fishing has to offer. Call us for details on the individual private streams – we will be more than happy to talk about what each venue has to offer!

Toccoa River Float Trips for Trout are done in either a Western-style drift boat or in framed fishing rafts, and your fishing guide will be rowing you down the river as well as putting you on fish. We can accommodate up to two anglers per boat. Half days are most popular on the Toccoa Tailwater, as this section is dam regulated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and the generation schedule doesn’t always allow a full day float, but we will do our best to get in a full day on request. These trips are known for producing better numbers of average sized rainbow and brown trout than you will find on a typical wade trip, as we cover more water. You also have a small chance at some of the true trophy-sized trout that reside in the Toccoa, but these fish are well educated and not easy to come by!

Etowah River Striper and Spotted Bass

Float Trip (4-6 Hours): $450

The lower Etowah below Allatoona dam is a beautiful and historic warm water fishery providing year round fishing for a number of different warm water species. We primarily fish the Etowah out of a 16 ft Clacka Craft drift boat utilizing a small ‘kicker’ engine to reach the most productive water efficiently. The most famous or ‘infamous’ species to target in the Etowah is the Striped Bass that run up from Lake Weiss. The time frame to target stripers in the Etowah generally ranges from May-September. Anglers who want to pursue striped bass in the river must come prepared to throw saltwater weight fly rods with large baitfish flies. Striper fishing is usually more about quality over quantity.

In addition to the stripers, the Etowah boasts a healthy population of trophy sized Spotted Bass which can be targeted from March until the end of October. We encourage both fly and spin fishing on our Etowah float trips seeing as utilizing both tactics can increase catch rates and accommodates more skill levels. We are fishing 6wt-10wt Fly rods with floating and sinking lines with top water and streamers, Medium to Heavy action spinning/casting rods with soft plastic and swimbait style shad imitations. Braided fishing line is highly recommended. We include snacks and cold beverages (full lunch optional), Rods/Reels upon request and leaders/tippets, flies. The guide will provide a number of Flies and Lures but we encourage anglers to be prepared with some flies and lures as well. The shop has a great selection of these flies.

Shoal Bass Float Trips:

Float Trip (6-8 Hours): $475

Shoal Bass are one of Georgia’s many unique bass species and are only native to the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin (ACF). These fish are aggressive, acrobatic, and behaviorally similar to trout in regards to the type of water they will hold – the appropriately named Shoal bass, and even larger specimen of the species, will hold in fast current and shallow shoal complexes. Simply put, these are an extremely hard-fighting fish and perfect to target with fly tackle. On a typical trip, Shoal bass average 13-16 inches long but are not uncommonly caught at exceptional size, reaching 20+ inches in length.

If you’re an intermediate to experienced angler looking for a unique adventure, these floats are in a class of their own. These trips are an hour and a half to two hour drive south of the Atlanta Area. A typical float trip for Shoal Bass can range from 6-8 hours out of a framed fishing raft due to the potential for low level whitewater rapids and shallow water. Expect to wade fish on occasion, so wet wading shoes or sandals without studs, quick drying clothing, and sun screen/clothing are a must have. We target these fish with 6-8 weight rods with both floating and sinking lines, heavy leader, and a selection of both baitfish, crawfish, and “critter” flies – the guide will furnish rod/reel and terminal tackle, but you’re welcome to bring your own equipment. Our season runs from February to December.
