Meet Our Staff

Andy Bowen, Owner

Andy is a United States Coast Guard licensed captain and owner of Cohutta Fishing Company. Andy’s passion for fishing began at a very early age fishing everything from farm ponds to lakes, and rivers. Growing up in south Georgia there was abundant opportunities for largemouth and bream fishing along the Flint River. Over the past 30 years his fishing experiences has taken him to several destinations including the Virgin Islands, Mexico, Costa Rica, Florida Keys, Chile, western rivers, and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He is a member of CCA, Trout Unlimted (Coosa Valley Chapter), Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, and the Atlanta Fly Fishing Club.

Conner Jones, Store Manager

Conner grew up in North Ga fishing for Bream and Bass. He learned to fly cast on lakes and ponds fishing for bream and soon after graduated to fly fishing for trout. As he began to learn more about fly fishing, subjects like entomology, fly tying, and our native brook trout became the focus of my fishing endeavors. Conner still enjoy chasing brookies in the high elevation streams but also make time for warmwater and saltwater species alike. Conner also is our Fly Tying Instructor here at the shop, for our classes that are offered once per month.

Michael Williams, Travel Director

Michael cut his teeth in the Fly Fishing Industry guiding the technical waters of Colorado. Cheesman Canyon, the Dream Stream, The Colorado, and The Arkansas rivers were his true home. Always drawn to exploration, Michael guided clients from spike camps in Alaska to the beaches of Baja Mexico.  He was chasing an ancient strain of rainbow trout in the Russian Far East when Boris Yeltsin was still in power, and was exploring the untouched tributaries of the mighty Amazon and Rio Negro in the mid 2000's.  Michael helped start a guide service that later merged wth Ark Anglers in Salida CO, and was a shop Manager at Mountain Angler Sports in Breckenridge CO.  On the corporate side, Michael was the Marketing Manager for Patagonia's Fly Fishing and Luggage Teams until 2000, and was the Regional Business Manager for the Orvis Company until 2005.  His territories included the Western States, Pacific Northwestern States, Western Canada, and Alaska.

Garner Reid, Head Guide

Garner grew up in Northwest Georgia chasing all critters big and small. If he is not on the water with a rod, you can bet he has a shotgun or a bow in his hands. After venturing out West and exploring the waters of Western Montana he wandered his way back home to work for Cohutta Fishing Company to chase river stripers, Brookies in the Appalachians, as well as other fresh and saltwater species.

Chase Pritchett, Guide

Chase was born in Lawton, Oklahoma and moved to North Georgia when he was five years old. Ever since then he has been chasing wild trout in the Cohutta wilderness. Chase was a scholarship athlete at Appalachian State University and could be found fishing the streams of western North Carolina in between classes and football practice. He now has a B.S. degree in Biology Education. In addition to Chase's background in education, he is also a FFF certified fly casting instructor. Chase's passion for teaching others how to fly fish is the element that drove him to pursue a full time career as an industry professional. If you're looking to learn the finer points of fly fishing Chase relishes the moment when a beginner 'gets it'. However, as a bonafide streamer junkie, it is likely he can be found floating high water in his Clackacraft skiff and fishing articulated streamers on sinking lines during the worst weather.

In 2014 Chase began tying flies commercially for local shops as a means to make ends meet. After grinding out countless flies in an industry dominated by outsourcing, the level of demand for his fly patterns grew drastically and in 2015 Chase's company American Made Flies was born. A few months later during a routine fishing trip to Louisiana he met guides Brett and Sue Novik, owners of Tidehead Flyfishing Destinations who eventually contracted Chase's company to handle all of their destination fly patterns. Since then, his flies have caught fish from the Seychelles, Cuba, Central America and South America and the South Pacific.

Drew Friedrich, Staff

Drew is a Cartersville Native, growing up on the bank of the Etowah River. Drew’s passion for fly fishing has led him from Cartersville to Montana where he Completed Sweetwater Guide School on the Yellowstone, to Colorado where he lived for a spell and fished Estes Park before returning home to Cartersville. Drew is a versatile fisherman who is just at home slinging big streamers for Stripers on the Etowah as he is casting dry flies for brook trout in the mountains.
