Fly Fishing Film Tour Huge Success

We finished up last week with the Fly Fishing Film Tour and it was absolutely awesome! The films were great and enjoyed by all, although we had to pause half way through reel 1 due to a Tornado warning and actually watched it go over the City Cellar and Loft was pretty darn crazy! After a 20 minute pause in the action I was very pleased to see that 98% of the attendees went back in to see the rest of the show. I want thank F3T for putting together such a great line up of films this year, my staff for helping us pull this one off, and to all the attendees who came out in the bad weather and helped make it such a fun environment! The cool thing for me was seeing so many familiar faces that are our customers at the show, thanks again to you all for your continued support! Ok local fishing – well right now the white bass and hybrid bite has been really good in most all local rivers. The striper should be here soon and look forward to some good summer striper action this season! Also, our private water for trophy trout is fishing extremely good right now, with the rainfall we have received has made for very good spring flows. So if you want to get out and catch some really quality fish, call the shop to book a trip! Our calendar is filling up fast for guide trips so don’t let this killer spring fishing pass you by! Until next time, tight lines and go get you some!

Good Fishing to you all!

3rd Annual Fly Fishing Tournament!

This past weekend we had our 3rd Annual Fly Fishing Tournament outside of Ellijay, GA. The weather turned out to be very nice and the fishing was excellent! Our eight-two man teams managed to catch over 500 inches of fish in just two 2.5 hour sessions! In First place- Mark and Ryan King won two new Sage rods, Second place- Joey Dean and Patrick Crowe won their pick of any Korkers wading boots, Third place- Mitch Wilson and Nick Wishousky won $100 Gift Cards to the shop and True Flies apparel. We want to thank everyone who attended, judged, and helped behind the scenes to make this event happen. We would also like to thank our sponsors Sage Fly Rods, Korkers Wading Boots, True Flies Apparel, Yellow Dog Fly Fishing Adventures, Montana Fly Company, and a big shout out to Paul Kirbabas for keeping us all well hydrated with Sweetwater Brewing Company’s Lowryder IPA and 420.  Also a special thanks to the judges: Dane & Fletcher Law from Southeastern Anglers, Davie Crawford from Deep South Anglers, Bob Davidson, Tim Barr, Kurt Russell, Ben Austin, Will Watters, and Conner Jones (our Fly Tying Instructor) for taking time away from their families and guide trips – thanks again guys!  A very special thanks goes out to my wonderful wife for catering the food and putting up with all us all day! Can’t wait to until next year to do it all again! On a totally different note, we are very fortunate to have dodged todays violent tornadoes and storms and our thoughts and prayers go out to the families in Adairsville and other parts of North Georgia who were affected by todays storms.

Good Fishing to you all,

Andy

In May we look forward to our first group travel trip of the year, we will be heading to Belize to hookup on some salty critters! On a totally different note, but something else to look forward too; I have been working with the local downtown authority and we are planning to bring  a bluegrass festival to downtown Cartersville this spring, stay tuned for updates! In 2013 our 2 Day Fly Fishing School will be offered twice this year once in April and once in October, check our classes page on the website for school dates. Louisiana RedFishing is Hot!

Just got back from our Annual Louisiana Redfish Trip; this year we fished with Capt. Kirby Lacour, Capt. Alec Griffin, and Capt. Bobby Warren. These guides are fantastic, although we had very tough weather the first couple of days the trip turned out pretty good! Kurt Russell had a really good day on the final day of fishing with a 23, 24, and 26 pounder! Patrick Crow also had a really good fish on Wednesday that was almost 20lbs. We stayed at Woodland Plantation and let me go ahead and tell you if you’re on a strict diet stay away from that place otherwise the food and service is great and if you like seafood you will NOT be sorry you stayed there! Anyway, Christmas is approaching so stop by the shop and check our new inventory from Simms, Mountain Khakis, Orvis, and Beretta! Until, next time, take care, good fishing, and have a safe and Merry Christmas! Oh, by the way our Downtown Christmas Parade is this coming Thursday the 6th and it is something to see, come check our great downtown area here in Cartersville!

Sincerely,

Andy

New Shop Location

OK, it’s been a while since I’ve updated the blog, and I do apologize! I am definitely going to try and do a better job updating in the future! We have had a crazy year trying to get our new location ready for opening, and now I can say we are happy to be in our new location and are settling in! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers that have supported us since we started, without you the new shop location would not have been possible! Our new shop is 1/3 bigger and with the expansion of space has allowed us to broaden our product lines, we now carry Sage rods, Tibor reels, Go Pro cameras, Beretta clothing, and Olu Kai footwear. If you haven’t made it by to check out the new shop hopefully we will see you soon! We are very easy to access off the Interstate, basically go straight into town about 2 miles from Interstate 75 and go across the train track and we are immediately on the right. 39 South Public Square is our new address which can be found on Google maps on the home page! Next month we have Capt. Scott Wagner coming for our monthly presentation on October 11th. Scott is an inshore guide from Savannah and guides the Georgia coast and Hilton Head / Beaufort area, and will definitely be a great presentation. Look forward to seeing soon!
Good Fishing to you all!

Well we just finished up with our 2nd annual fly fishing tournament this past weekend at Eastern Fly Fishing Club.  Congratulations to the father and son team of Mark and Ryan King who won this year’s event! Second place went to Paul Kirbabas and Kevin Knight, and in third place was last year’s winners Harlin Smith and Vance Perry. Everyone who participated in the event received a tournament t shirt, with logos of all of our sponsors of the event on the back. I want to thank all of our sponsors again for their contributions Scott Fly Rods, Hardy of North America, Yellow Dog Fly Fishing Adventures,  Eastern Fly Fishing Club, United Distributors, and Abita Brewing Company. A special thanks goes out to all of the judges that donated their time for the day of the event: Capt. Dane Law and Capt. Mark Scarborough of Southeastern Anglers, Bob Davidson, John Lawson, Capt. Joel Dickey, Phillip Butler, Kurt Russell, and Ben Austin. I hope we can continue having this event every year, it is a lot of fun and everyone seemed to enjoy the competition and the Bar-B-Q lunch. Also, I want to thank my wife and daughter for bringing the Bar-B-Q  and all they did to help with the catering. Rodney Cole also played a very important role in set up and breakdown, thanks again Rodney, and Charlie Butler for the beverages and shuttling everyone to their beats to fish. If anyone hasn’t  fished EFFC you should check out their website and call Erik Ashlin to join the club, it is a great private section of water that is very well managed!

Merry Christmas and Good Fishing!

Fall Fishing and News

I hope this finds everyone enjoying some cooler temps and getting outdoors for some camping and fishing. I made it down to a buddy’s house in Beaufort, SC last weekend and finally got some great sight fishing conditions for redfish. 3-5 winds with mostly sunny skies and a great guide poling made for an epic day on the flats. Capt. Scott Wagner, Will, and I had exactly that an EPIC DAY! Local fishing -the hybrid bass fishing on Lake Allatoona is on fire right now!  Also, I have some really exciting news we have become the first dealer to offer Oyster Fine Bamboo Fly Rods! These rods are truly a work of art as well as a great fishing tool, we are currently taking orders and our rods will be in the shop by mid November! As far as events this fall we have a unbelievable lineup starting with Fly Tying w/ Max Birnkammer on October 8th from 11:00 to 3:00, in November we have Jim Klug from Yellow Dog Fly Fishing Adventures discussing Destination Travel at the shop on the 10th, and then wrapping up this year’s presentation’s we have Capt. Joel Dickey on December 1st, his topic will be “Florida Keys Flats Fishing Clinic”. If you haven’t been in the shop lately, stop by and check out our new merchandise and we will soon have the new Scott A4 rods! Until next time Good Fishing to you all!

Springtime?

I sure hope everyone is out enjoying this unbelievable weather! The fishing reports that I’ve been receiving lately are great whether it is trout, crappie, bass or even tarpon in the keys everything is on fire with this warm spell. Get out and enjoy before you’re bundled up again thinking of how you should have done something outdoors last week! The Florida Keys hasn’t experienced a cold front in two weeks and the tarpon have moved in and are eating flies like crazy according to some very reliable sources. By the way, the Great Southern Fishing show was a great success, and for those of you that missed it should definitely put it on your calendars for next year! One more quick reminder, don’t forget that we have tickets for the “Flyfishing Film Tour” scheduled for March 31st at the Plaza Theatre in Atlanta. Tickets are 12.oo at the shop and 14.00 at the door!

Happy Trails,

Andy
